OUGD603 - YCN BEAR - Website Development

After looking at the current BEAR website I realised they work like interactive illustrations rather than an actual website layout. There are little elements that you can click through for more fun things for the children.

So taking this as inspiration I took the main character BEAR and illustrated him in the "HQ" which I decided should be a submarine where he can travel the seas and dive from the sub. I had some ideas of how you could interact with the illustration as well as what would be in a submarine. I thought that you could look up the periscope and see above the sea. Also I thought about how the game would tie into this site, and decided that you could click on the diving suit and that would take you to the game.

I also did some rough sketches of what the outside of the submarine could look like. I had this silly idea that it could be painted to look like a bear a bit like old planes that had shark faces on them (see below).

I digitised all of my sketches and refined them a bit. For a bit of extra humour and for a cheeky reference I made the submarine yellow in reference to The Beatles song so that it is something that the parents appreciate as well. I think that the use of the Bear's face also adds a bit of humour which would entertain kids.

I created what the periscope might look like quickly. I thought that you could have some interesting things happening if you waited long enough like a dolphin jumping out or a whale breaching.

If I had more time I would have liked to animate this site a bit more and perhaps add a bit more detail in places but because this is an extra deliverable to the brief I don't want to spend too much time on it.
