OUGD603 - YCN BEAR - Card Development

After sketching out some layouts I decided to start to create them digitally. I started with trying to create a stylised version of the fish like I did a stylised version of bear but I think it doesn't really show the fish off as much as it should. If I want to celebrate the diversity of the species in the sea I should probably represent the fish as accurately as possible. Also, I don't think I like the portrait layout, though I can fit more text in a column I think that this might be too much text in one area.

So I went back to my sketches and picked one layout and made it digitally. I tried to choose fonts that were both legible and readable while being quite playful at the same time. I chose a brush type for the titles because it was bold and hand written making the cards feel more personal and contrasted this with a serif that is similar to a typewriter typeface. I wanted to include the locations in which the species could be found visually so I used images of the countries and or continents and created a lighter shape around to highlight the area. I think that this is the clearest way to do it and it is also backed up by the text by the side of it. I was really happy with this layout so once I had created my first card, front and back, I just used the same layout with different information.

I created 4 cards in total of the species that I thought would be most interesting and popular among the target audience of children aged 4-9. I asked for feedback on these and it was very positive in fact they said they wouldn't really change anything so that is good. They did mention that in the rarity bit I could include if the species were endangered or vulnerable but I'm very cautious of doing this as BEAR said they aren't "worthy" suggesting that they don't want to preach about anything.
